QUESTIONWhat is American Mythology and how have they been sighted? Every country has mythology of its own and these stories have always piqued my interest. As I researched legends like the Loch Ness Monster, I began to wonder about the cryptids in America. I researched American urban legends and focused on cryptids that gained a following. Some of these monsters were inspired by other legends, such as the Ozark Howler was influenced by Cu-Sith from Scotland and the Black Dog of Death from Britain. Some are seen as omens, like the Mothman. Others were just caught in the wrong place at the right time.

EVIDENCE OF PRACTICE, EXPERIMENTATION, AND REVISION GUIDED BY THE QUESTION
Newspapers containing headlines or sketches were inserted to show that cryptids were seen. I experimented with the Dover Demon (S.I. 9), having it interact with the background to give it perspective instead of having it sit in a solid color like the Jackalope (S.I. 1). I then practiced placing cryptids in their environments to further experiment with mimicking sightings. The Flatwoods Monster (S.I. 14) follows the original witness testimony by rushing at the viewer. I synthesized newspapers to include photographs of sighting areas and to blend in with the background for S.I. 10-15.
